Scams

We all know scams are everywhere.  The question is, can you spot them before you fall for them?

Here are some steps you can take to be less likely to fall for a scam.

  • Think — If it’s too good to be true OR one of your worst nightmares, it may be a scam.

  • Read — Gone are the days of poorly written emails that were the hallmark of scams, but many times there is a telltale sign in the language used in scam emails and texts.  Odd phrases, mistakes in tenses, switching between formal and informal language may point to a scam.

  • Research — A quick internet search may provide the clues you need to decide if something is a scam.  Copy/paste the entire message into the search engine and read through the results.

  • Question — Question everything.  You can’t blindly accept what you see, hear, or read.  You have to ask questions.
