Red Flags You Should Never Ignore

I’ve been getting a lot of these emails recently . . . at least a few a week.

  • The email looks like it’s coming from me

  • The person listed as leaving a voicemail is different each time

  • The format of the email looks the same in each message

I don’t have a service set up to send voicemail recordings to me, so I was fairly certain it was junk, but I started over-thinking.

  • Maybe it was a new feature

  • It looks like it might be from my Microsoft account

  • Tech is changing so fast, maybe I missed something

But . . .

  • My company name is run together

  • My name is not capitalized correctly

  • I don’t know the person leaving the voicemail

  • Who leaves a 2+ minute voicemail???

  • When I hover over the Play button the URL looks odd

So I did some checking.

The final point that tipped the scale was the email header failed

SPF & DMARC Authentication and the DKIM Signature was missing.

OK, that last point is a bit on the techie side, but there were plenty of other red flags. You can learn to spot these types of emails and feel more confident about when it is ok to click and when it is not.
