Back It Up – Part 2

Last time, we covered different ways to back up your computer. The most common being Cloud Storage Services. There are sooo many service options available, how do you choose?

You could choose by price, available options, name recognition, or any combination. For me, it’s a combination of things that lead me to my current provider.

Let’s take a look at some things to consider:

  • Price — Gotta make sure it’s in your budget

  • Storage Space — How much do you have to back up?  Are the storage breaks reasonable for what you need?

  • Number of Drives — Do you have more than one disk to back up?  Do you have an external drive?  Will more that one computer be backed-up?

  • Operating Systems — Not all services work well with all operating systems.  Read the reviews.

  • Access — Do you need immediate access to your backed-up files or are you backing-up as a precaution only?

  • Ease of Use — Let’s be honest, not all apps are easy to use.  Make sure you understand how to use the back-up service you choose.

In the previous article, I said I would tell you about my favorite back up service. For my business, I chose iDrive*.

I chose iDrive for it’s ease of use, the number of drives it would handle (including my external drive), and the price. It also happens to be in the 10 ten services providers, so it does have some name recognition too. iDrive is not the first back-up service I’ve used, but my previous providers choices were lacking options that I needed as my business grew.

If you need help choosing or setting up your back-up system, just let me know. We can talk through the options that work best for you.
