Email Safety

As AI improves, email scams are becoming harder to detect.  Gone are the days of poor grammar and punctuation making scams easy to spot (remember the Nigeran Prince???).

The bad actors have stepped up their game, so you have to step up yours.  Here are a few ways to help protect yourself.

  1. Don’t click links in unsolicited emails

  2. Make sure you have anti-virus installed and updated

  3. Think — does the email make sense or does something seem off?

  4. If you are questioning the email, copy/paste the text into a search and check the results to see if the email is a scam.

Got those steps under control, let’s add another layer to your email safety:

  • Change your email password often

  • Turn on 2-step authentication

  • Create an email address just for things you sign up for. Use this email address for all the non-essential emails and mailing lists

  • Remember this meme:
